So much of what constitutes creativity today centers around the results of the creative process….the final product. As a professional artist for the past 25 years, I am intimately acquainted with this point of view. I’ve also come to realize however, that I still play within the confines of every commission. I still experiment with new materials, I still try to paint with more time than I think I’ll need and there are phases within each painting where I still don’t worry about the results.
I believe the elements of Play are exploring the nature of paint in a relatively unstructured space and having ample time to experience the process. This is wonderfully invigorating for anyone, whether you consider yourself artistic or not.
Playshops are designed with these elements in mind.
Whether you want to draw realistically with a pencil in your hand or create a vast expanse of color using only your feet, Playshops are inherently adaptable to accommodate and encourage various imaginative sparks.
Should you want a particular theme, a particular style, or to primarily play with a particular type of art supply, or to even want to take home a finished piece of process-centered artwork, that is also totally doable.
Playshops are both non-competitive and non-judgmental in nature. The goal is to experience the creative process within the security of a supportive group.
Each Playshop is one-of-a-kind. Please feel free to email or call me to discuss details, availability and pricing.
This gallery highlights some of the work I've completed recently.
Some of these murals are painted on muslin at the studio and then installed at the site, while others have been painted directly on the walls and/or ceilings at the site.
The weight of the muslin, even painted, is suitable for upholstered walls.
In most cases, professional installation is required.
This breakfast room was inspired by the murals in an 18th century European Chateau.
The paintings in this gallery represent artwork painted on canvas, wood, and cellulose painted with either acrylic or oil. Most of the work pictured here are commissioned pieces, many of which represent a blend of the client's visual and logistical parameters and my own creative sensibility.
